The sounds in this game are annoying, even more so than Mario Kart. The graphics work well enough for a kart racer. I should mention that this is a console port, and SEGA tends to make pretty bad ports in my experience this game isn't an exception.
This is about as close to Mario Kart as you're going to get on PC. Still, this is a decent game to break out with local players if you have a few controllers to share. Update: After playing some local multiplayer, there's definitely one more thing that has to be addressed: the fact that nearly any of the game modes can be played multiplayer.
That adds a lot of value to this game. Several friends and I have been playing through the story mode to unlock things, and having more players really helps in some of the races, since you win if -any- of you fulfill the win condition.
It's not perfect, especially because certain race types become much harder with the addition of more players, but thanks to this feature, this game becomes one of the best local multiplayer games on Steam as long as you have some Xbox controllers to pass out.
While I still prefer the racing mechanics of Mario Kart, being able to play more game types is a huge bonus, and a big reason to choose this game when friends are over. There is quite a learning curve to this game, but It's challenging, beautiful, and downright fun! The graphics are overall good and the physics are as realistic as a sega racing game should be. However, this and the diverse character roster seem to be the only features this game has the right to boast about.
Aside from all the fancy shading and popular game character gimmicks, the main theme of this game: "Transforming", seems to be a bit of a joke. The The game is decently designed. The control is extremely loose when in anything other than a land vehicle, and other than that the main gimmick has absolutely no impact on gameplay. The way the difficulty was designed was nothing to brag about, as I found myself replaying the same level far more than I should due to the fact that in order to unlock most of the characters which are mainly re-skins of other characters I might add , because on harder difficulties the game boils down to playing the game in a way that barely differs from grinding and you end up having to wait until the AI slips up and you get to make your lucky dash to the finish line until five seconds later when the cpu is already far ahead.
My main complaint about this game is that when developing their game, Sega forgot the crucial fact that there is absolutely no reason to add specific features to a game if it makes no one want to purchase or recommend their game. This game is an easy 10 out of 10 for me. It's one of my favourite games of all time and I've only just discovered its existence and fun factor this year in The courses are great fun with a lot of variety some have just driving some driving and flying and others have driving, flying and boating.
The ONLY thing that could have been improved is the pickups which could have had more interesting ones and variety of pickup possibilities. The drifiting is super fun too. This game is awesome even better than mario kart they created a real gem of a game here lets hope they continue to make this game and anyone who has any doubts should purchase this game without hesitation whatsoever.
This is a good game, fun, and colorful. If I were to make a comparison, Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed is just like Mario Kart in the sense that it's a kart racing game with weapon items. The constant shooting and dodging attacks while racing adds a whole new level of fun to racing games, whereas I usually find "realistic" driving games like Forza incredibly monotonous and boring compared to a game like this. Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed is. Cars just seem faster in this game, and it makes it more challenging and immersive.
Also, for a game set in a variety of other games' fantasy-worlds, the graphics are nothing short of stunning. Framerate matters in racing games, and p 60fps has never looked cooler. Don't try to play any racing game with a mouse and keyboard or you will have a bad time. The difficulty curve can be a bit steep at times.
Most of my friends and I, who have many years of racing game experience, were able to beat the entire Easy GP difficulty on day 1, first place by miles on every track.
But when you jump up to the Medium difficulty, suddenly the AI's get a brain and start actually using the items. You'll really have to be an aggressive driver and use as many stunts and drift-turbos as you can if you want to beat the higher difficulties.
But I always love a challenge. I would highly reccomend this game for anyone looking for a good racing game on PC that takes a step away from "realistic" racers. This is particularly obvious and painful to play with at the A grade difficulty which unfortunately turns the game to a "hoping you won't get pounded by item spam" matter if you have any forethought of getting first place and nowhere does this get more frustrating than in the Grand Pixes where you can't restart to the current level.
I've also seen some pretty laughable warping when I play MP. Overall, a fun game with It's fair share of flaws and cheap, overpowered AI gimmicks to increase the difficulty instead of just making a proper AI. This game features a career mode which is where all of these characters and tracks will unlock.. There are a variety of challenges and paths for you to go down, all earning you stars for completing.. There are straight up races, theres drift challenges.. Theres my favorite elimination.. I havnt had this much fun in a kart racer in a while.. Before each race you chose your character you think will be best for the challenge youre about to take on and you go at it… drifting and tracks for speed boosts, speed pads all over the place, constant offensive and defensive pick ups… every race is so thrilling and you actually feel like skill matters here… With this resurgence of arcade racers from indie teams lately..
And these tracks are all fun to race through.. I hate flying in games.. I hate controlling planes.. I wish the played with this idea more, making every lap in every tracks different..
This game is pretty awesome. It takes a lot from great titles of the genre like Mario Kart, Crash, Diddy Kong Racing and create a truly unique way of putting it all together. Like all racing games with weapons around the course the RNA is brutal, perhaps a little too brutal, but that's expected since day one. The PC port is great as well,hope SEGA keeps showing the love for the PC gamers crowd and also bring successors to this game, with even tighter controls, please.
Ever since the demise of Mario Kart in the N64 days, we've been needing that. A highly addictive racing game made by Sega. This game is loads of fun. It has a variety of tracks and is compatible with the Xbox One controller. I would recommend using the controller, too, as it can be a bit tricky with the keyboard.

Then 'Diddy Kong Racing' came out and it was the greatest thing to ever happen to cart racers. Then Nintendo put out 'Double Dash', and it was the greatest thing to ever happen to cart racers. Then 'Mario Kart' came out for the Wii and needless to say, it wasn't very good. Then this game came out and all was well again in the land of cart racers. This is without a doubt, one of the best cart racing games to ever have been released.
In fact, it's so good that I'm willing to overlook the fact that it's pretty much a complete rip-off of both 'Diddy Kong Racing' and 'Double Dash'. But that's probably what I like most about it.
Really though, this game has everything you would want in a cart racing game and more. Various modes: such as 'destroy the tank', 'pass the traffic', and 'boost to the finish line' assure that you'll never get bored.
Tons of tracks: 21 to be precise that's old enough to legally consume alcohol! What else could you ask for? I've unlocked all characters and tracks after 23 hours some of that was playing online, which was lag free , so I'm done at this point. Not going to do World Tour or Grand Prix on S rank because the AI is just crazy in that mode and there is no reason to do it aside from achievement hunting.

Only 20 tracks, but they are longer than Mario Kart tracks many taking more than 5 minutes to do 3 laps on and several tracks have third laps that are totally different from the first two, plus you have boat car and plane modes so there is a good amount of variety here.
Highly recommended. May need to run the launcher through the install dir to get it to open, may need to disable ambient occlusion in the launcher since at least for me the game doesn't run well with it on my system blows the requirements out of the water.

The stats are complete trash on pretty much any character you play, and the game asks to mod them, shouldn't have to, should just be stats that make sense like seen in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
There's no hidden tech that makes it fun and exhilarating to come back and play. Stunts don't work half the time you try and trick over them, so what's the point of having them implemented.

When viewed and accepted as a console game that's got a little bit lost and wandered on to thr wrong platform, things aren't so bad. Gameplay is smooth, visuals are colourful and unashamedly jolly, and the game is full of catchy and nostalgic music. A few performance issue mar an otherwise fun little racer, and with unlockable tracks, music and characters, a series of challenge-based 'missions', the usual array of tournaments and single races, and the return of splitscreen multiplayer to the PC, it's hard to be too harsh on this deranged but loveable little blue entity.
